MOHAWK – Kenneth Richard Cook, age 84, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday morning, March 20, 2024, in The Grand, Ilion. He had the support and comfort of his loving family at his side.
He was born on April 12, 1939, in Frankfort, New York, son of the late Sidney and Katherine (Faber) Cook. A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of Mohawk High School and went on to receive an associate degree. On March 14, 1959, he was united in marriage to Helen Patricia Baylor, in Grace Episcopal Church, in Mohawk. This was true love that endured over 58 years until the passing of Helen on March 28, 2017. He worked at Wright’s Furniture in Mohawk for over 40 years.
Mr. Cook was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His home and family were his priorities in life. He was always there for them, in good times or bad. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family and will be sadly missed. He was a longtime member of the Mohawk Fish & Game Club, the Trappers Association and loved to hunt and fish, especially with a vintage number 3 Fly Fishing Martin Reel.
Surviving are his devoted family: one son, Kenneth R. Cook, Jr., and his wife, Brenda, of Ilion; a daughter, Shari Murphy, of Ilion-Mohawk; one brother Robert Cook; grandchildren, Laken Cook, Landry Cook, Tanner Cook, Kye Cook, Kace Cook, Sixx Cook, Nina Dickinson, Kaitlyn Dickinson, Sophie Murphy and Benjamin Cook Murphy; four great-grandchildren, Olivia Cook, Cecilia Cook, Isabella Cook and Caden Thomas Cook; sisters-in-law, Marion Baylor and Jean Hyde; many nieces and nephews, including special niece, Linda Cockett and nephew, David Wollaber; several cousins; and special friends, Pete Dunckel, Bob Morgan, Dick Bly and Dick Phillips.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Cook; and his grandson, Brandon Cook.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 State Rte 5S, Mohawk, NY 13407, a place that Mr. & Mrs. Cook were extremely fond of through the years.
A Celebration of Life will be planned for the warmer weather (spring or summer), at the Mohawk Fish and Game Club, to be announced.
