ILION-Mr. Kenneth "Ken" R. Burton, 64, of Acme Rd., Ilion (town of Frankfort) passed away on Friday morning, August 29, 2008 in his home from an apparent heart attack. He was born in Ilion on August 17, 1944, son of the late Lynn and Anna (Abeling) Burton and educated in Ilion and Frankfort schools. On September 2, 1988 he married his wife of 19 years Nancy Smith in the First Baptist Church, Herkimer. He served his country proudly in the United States Army. His last employment was with Remington Arms, retiring in 2006 following 35 years of dedicated service. Ken was of the Baptist faith and was known by many as an active volunteer for Valley Health Services in Herkimer where they in fact held a "Ken Burton Day" in his honor. He could always be found tinkering and working on projects around his home. Ken will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife Nancy of Ilion; two daughters: Kristi Smith and husband Kevin of Frankfort, Linda Burton and companion Scott Davis of Dolgeville and a step-son: Albert Smith and wife Leona of Ilion; two brothers: Harold Burton and wife Betty of Clinton and Don Burton and companion Linda of Frankfort; two sisters: Norma Forbes and husband Robert of Ilion and Shirley Hartley of Ilion; his grandchildren: Richard Prentice Jr., Justin Prentice, Joshua Smith, Shelby Davis, Zachary Smith and Franklin Smith; two aunts: Lana Williams of New Hartford and Elsie Abeling of Ilion; many nieces, nephews, cousins and in laws. He was predeceased by two brothers: Robert and John Burton and by two sisters: Betty Ann Burton and Lois Casaletta. Mr. Burton's funeral will commence at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening, Sept. 2, 2008 from the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion with the Rev. Andrew Peloubet, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Ilion, officiating. Relatives and friends may pay their respects from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Interment will take place privately in Armory Hill Cemetery. In lieu of floral offerings, kindly consider memorial offerings to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to the American Heart Association; envelopes may be obtained at the funeral parlor.
