ILION-MOHAWK - Kenneth "Ken" J. Avery, age 83, formerly of Mohawk and Ilion, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion.







He was born on July 21, 1928, in Ilion, the son of Samuel and Gertrude (Brewer) Avery, and attended Ilion schools and Morrisville College. Ken was united in marriage to Lena A. Strzyewski, a blessed and caring union of over forty-five years. She died on August 4, 2005. During his life, Mr. Avery was a self-employed electrician, a farmer, an employee at MDS and an employee with N.Y.S. at Limekiln Campgrounds. Ken loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ken was a member of the Ilion Moose Lodge and the Ilion Fish & Game Club.







Survivors include his sister, Marilyn Willems, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Don Avery, in 2006.







Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, with Rev. Christopher Wintermute, Pastor of the Little Falls First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Litchfield Cemetery.







Calling hours are Monday, September 5, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.







The Ilion Moose Lodge #1010 service will be held Monday, September 5, at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.







In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.







All service arrangements and supervision were prearranged and are entrusted to Ken's family Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
