Kendra Fay Story, 36, of Utica, NY, passed away peacefully at her home, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Born in Ilion, NY, to Wendy and Henry Wakefield, Kendra grew up with a deep love for family, a strong spirit, and a heart that never hesitated to give.
Kendra’s passion for helping others was evident in every part of her life. Whether she was lending a listening ear over coffee, whipping up one of her signature dishes in the kitchen, or planning a spontaneous day at the lake, Kendra brought joy to those around her. She had a way of making every gathering brighter, every meal more delicious, and every moment more meaningful in her own unique way.
She was most at home surrounded by family, especially during her favorite “hot girl” adventures with her nieces. Her loyal companion, Princess the dog, was always by her side — a testament to her nurturing soul and her ability to love deeply and fiercely.
Kendra is survived by her father Henry Wakefield; her older sister Stephanie Wissman and her favorite brother Derrick Wissman; her best friend since elementary school Keyonna Hamilton; her younger sister Samantha; and her beloved nieces Zoey Wakefield and Madalynn, Natalee, Chelsea and Katelynn Wissman. She also leaves behind her aunts and uncles Tammy and Bob VanHorne of Forestport, Johnny and Cathy Wakefield of Herkimer, Bobby Wakefield, and Kenny and Alana Darling. She also leaves many cousins behind including a special one to her, Kyrie — each of whom she shared a special bond with.
She was preceded in death by cherished family members who helped shape the woman she became, including her mother, Wendy, her grandparents, Jean and Kenneth Darling, her aunt Hope Darling, and her cousin Anthony whose memories she carried close to her heart.
Kendra's spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her laugh, her kindness, and her bold, beautiful presence will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her.
A private family gathering will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you do something kind for someone in need — just as Kendra always did.
