Kathleen A. Coffin

December 4, 1941 — March 14, 2026

Ilion, New York

IN LOVING MEMORY

ILION – Kathleen A. “Kathy” Coffin, age 84, a longtime resident of Ilion, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Valley Health Services after a long illness.

Born in Ilion on December 4, 1941, Kathy was the eldest child of the late John and Pauline (Burger) Mackin. She was raised and educated in Ilion, attended Annunciation Catholic School, and was a 1959 graduate of Ilion High School, where she was a proud Majorette. She furthered her education, earning her radiology degree.

On November 25, 1961, Kathy was married to William “Bill” Coffin and together they shared a blessed and devoted union of over sixty-two years until his untimely passing in 2024.

Kathy began her Radiology career at Mohawk Valley General Hospital, working there for over twenty-five years. She then accepted a position in Remington Arms Medical Department. If you were a good patient, she would give you a lollipop! She enjoyed working there, and her fellow employees were quite fond of her. She eventually retired from Little Falls Hospital after several years of service.

In her free time, she was an avid gardener of plants and perennials and loved working in her backyard “nature area”. A hobby she passed down to her daughters. There wasn’t a garage, house, or antique sale that she missed unless Bill was driving. She spent many Saturdays “Saleing” with her sister Gail. She opened her home to anyone who needed it. During the winter, the side hill was packed with neighborhood kids sledding all day. Kathy enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and their growing families. Throughout the years, the family would enjoy camping throughout upstate New York, particularly at Moffitts Beach and Brantingham Lake. In later years, Bill and Kathy enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach, SC and South Florida, spending time in Miami, Islamorada and Key West. In the summer, they favored the St. Lawrence River and being on “the pontoon” boat.

Reading and crossword puzzles were also favorite pastimes. She had a great sense of humor, an infectious laugh, and will be thoroughly missed by all who knew her.

Kathy is survived by her four children, Bill Coffin Jr. of Ilion, Mary and Greg Day of Clayton, NY, Mike Coffin and Thomas Dougherty of Miami, FL, and Karen and Chet Slowik of Ilion; her nine grandchildren, Lindsay Coffin of Ilion, Abigail Coffin and Bob Walters of Green Castle, IN, Andrew Coffin and Sierra Leitten of Buffalo, Ryan and Valerie Day of Ilion, Matthew Day and Danielle Grescheck of Ilion, Adam Day and Gina Dow of Ilion, Danny Welch of Rincon, P.R. , Haylee Welch and Josh Pugh of Bridgewater and Austin Welch and Shayla Donnelly of Mohawk; and her twelve great-grandchildren, Kristopher, Isla, Lane, Alexandra, Brayton, Ross, Luca, Leah, Lexi, Jennifer, Trenton and Aleylah.

She also leaves her sister, Gail Trossett and brother David (Maryann) Mackin, all of Ilion, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and extended family. The family would like to thank her roommate, Ruth McGraw, for watching over her, as she will miss her immensely.

She was predeceased by her husband Bill, brother J. Michael Mackin and daughter-in-law Bonnie.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Valley Health Services staff for their excellent care during her time at the facility.
