In Loving Memory
MOHAWK – Mrs. Katherine (Kathe) Markwardt, age 82, a lifelong resident of the Mohawk Valley, passed away on February 13th, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
Kathe was born February 18th, 1943, in Little Falls, New York, the daughter of the late Francis and Catherine (Keefe) Van Allen. She was a 1962 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and furthered her education by becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1965. Kathe was united in marriage to Fred Markwardt on March 27th, 1992, and shared 23 years of marriage before Fred’s passing on September 4th, 2015.
During their 23 years of devoted marriage, Kathe and Fred enjoyed traveling with one of their favorite destinations being Tupper Lake. When not spending time with family and friends, they also enjoyed camping, fishing, and skiing. Kathe spent her entire career working with family and friends at Van Allen Nursing Home in Little Falls when she retired in 2003.
Survivors include her four children Joseph (Schelli) Servidone, Jean (Scott) Rockwell, Sarah (Dave) Dykeman and Robert (Liz) Servidone and her three stepsons Fred (Kim) Markwardt, Karl Markwardt and Andrew (Holly) Markwardt, her grandchildren Robert (Ashtin), Dale, Aaron, Steven (Jessica), Zachary (Courtney), Dana (Amber), Clayton (Kali), Haley (Grant), Ashley (Austin), Kevin, Kirsty, Titis, Ian, Anna and great grandchildren. She also leaves her brother Frank VanAllen, and two sisters-in-law, Lois VanAllen and Theresa VanAllen, several nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Kathe was a very caring and loving grandmother and great-grandmother, and her grandchildren brought joy to her life. In addition to family, Kathe had a love for the New York Yankees and rarely missed a game. Her daily routine included a trip to Burger King to meet with friends for coffee and people watch. She will also be missed by her Monday night card crew Joe and Patty Gizowski, Lee Smith and Pat Hannon.
Kathe is preceded in death by her beloved husband Fred Markwardt, her brothers William VanAllen and Jere VanAllen, her sister Karen Usselman and her in-laws Peter Usselman and Carol VanAllen.
Visitations for friends and family will be held at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, Little Falls, New York on Friday, February 20th, 2026, from 9am to 10:30 am with a funeral service at 11:00am at Holy Family Parish, Little Falls where her funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Mark Reilly. spring interment will take place at Rural Park Cemetery in Inghams Mills.
