ST. JOHNSVILLE- Mr. Justus Silas Matteson, 92, formerly of St. Johnsville passed away on March 10, 2012 at Palatine Nursing Home.



He was born on January 21, 1920, in St. Johnsville, son of the late Orra Lee and Amanda Ethel (Dingman) Matteson. Justus was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School. He was active in Boy Scouts, the American Legion and VFW. He was employed at Helmont Mills in St. Johnsville.



Justus served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1941-1945. He was stationed in England for a time and served as one of the Army's first Military Police.



Survivors include his nieces: Deborah Jordan, Susan Conners, Dorothy Stephens, Elizabeth Schoenberg, Jennifer Stephens, Nancy Bishop, Joan Hudson and Susan Pierce, and his dear friends: Lynette Brandt and Trisha Kuyrkendall. He was predeceased by his sisters: Ella Jane Stephens and Elizabeth Marks.



A service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 2pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville. Interment will follow at Freysbush Cemetery.
