June Slabe

June 3, 1936 — February 23, 2024

MOHAWK - June Slabe, 87, of Mohawk, passed away suddenly, at Wynn Hospital, on Friday, February 23, 2024.

June was born June Marie Siver in the Town of Salisbury Center, daughter of the late Clifford “Asa” and Jennie (Bullock) Siver, as one of six children. At a young age, June met the love of her life, Edward Slabe, and married at the First United Methodist Church. Together they built their dream home in the Town of Little Falls, often working late nights while getting the wood to build their Sandy Lane home from the family’s sawmill located on Jacob Slabe’s farm. June enjoyed nearly 70 years in the beautiful Town of Little Falls, raising four kids. June and Ed enjoyed a loving marriage that lasted 57 years until Ed’s death in 2009.

As a mother of four young children, June joined her husband initially in building a television repair company and later holding various positions that included working for NYS, collecting data for the New York State Department of Transportation Studies Field of Urbanized or Parcel Areas, served as Tax Collector for the Town of Little Falls, served as Custodian of Voting Machines for the Town of Little Falls and was employed at the Salada Tea Company.

June and Ed served together as officers and long-time members of the Slovenian Home, Inc., on Danube Street, in Little Falls, where many family-oriented dinner-party dance events were held over the years with great food and music. Ed and June loved to dance almost every polka at these parties!

June was also a die-hard Yankees fan. Every season she kept a spreadsheet of each game player statistics and could name everyone that ever played on the team. Her contagious smile, wit and energy will be greatly missed.

June is survived by her four children, Linda (husband Joe) Barcelo, of New Jersey, Kathy (husband Ron) Polley, of Ohio, Edward Slabe, of New York and Brian Slabe, of New York. June is also survived by her brothers, Ronald and George Siver, both of Dolgeville, New York; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Per June’s request, a small family service will be held at the Enea Family Funeral Home, at 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, New York, on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Spring burial will be held at Church Street Cemetery.

June’s children wish to express special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Wynn Hospital and in particular to Allison, a caring nurse in the Intensive Care Unit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are requested to Wynn Hospital, 111 Hospital Drive, Utica, NY 13502.

June’s arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, New York 13357, Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate Funeral Directors (315-823-2424).
