LAKELAND, FL/FORT HEKIMER, NY: Joseph A. Volo, age 89, of 733 Martinique Circle, Lakeland, FL, a former Ft. Herkimer resident, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 after a long illness.
He was born on May 13, 1922 in Little Falls, NY, the son of the late Michael and Rosina (Loiacano) Volo. Upon his mother's death, he was loved and raised by his Aunt and Uncle, James and Jenny Zito of Ft. Herkimer, from the age of 2 years.
Joe was educated in Ft. Herkimer Schools. He was married to Marion (Bridger) Volo on October 9, 1943 at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk. She passed away June 25, 1990. They were married for 47 years. She was the Treasurer and Vice President of their trucking business.
Joseph was the President of Joseph A. Volo Trucking Contractor, Inc., retiring in 1978.
He is survived by his son: James and daughter-in-law Sherry Volo of Vernon, NY; a daughter: Janet C. Volo Piscione of Fonda, NY; his loving companion: Joyce Camp of Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren: Jeff (Kate) Volo of Vernon, NY, Jace (Kelly)Volo of New Hartford, Jenna Volo of Vernon,NY, Colleen (Dale) Mattoon of Locke, NY, Julie (Darin) Blowers and Andrea (Heath Guffey) Piscione of Fonda, NY; nine great grandchildren; sisters: Mame and her husband Ralph Servadio of Florida, Jean and her husband Angelo Petranto of Rochester, Carm Sweeney of Ft. Herkimer; a brother: Frank Volo of Rochester; a former son-in-law: Andrew Piscione of Fonda and a sister-in-law: Neva Volo. Joe was predeceased by a brother Nebo Volo.
Funeral arrangements will be private and have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington Street, Herkimer, NY (315-866-1011). Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
The family is being cared for by Harry J. Enea, Funeral Director.
