FRANKFORT – Mr. Joseph P. “Joe” Licari, age 72, passed away unexpectedly on February 28, 2024 in the privacy and comfort of his home.
Born in Ilion Hospital on September 20, 1951, Joseph was the son of the late Baldassi “Ben” and Gladys (Wood) Licari. He was raised and educated in Frankfort, graduating with the Class of 1970. He then went on to further his education at MVCC, Utica College and SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
Joe was an intelligent man whose career spanned fifty years and various companies. As a young man, he was employed by the former Union Fork & Hoe before taking a position in Syracuse, working with stocks and bonds.
Eventually he would go on to have a lengthy career with the Griffiss Utility Services Corporation, providing steam heat and electricity to the tenants of Griffiss Park in Rome. Most recently, he was employed by Shorepower Technologies in Utica as one of their directors; working to provide truck stop electrification through reducing emissions and increasing efficiency.
In his spare time, Joe enjoyed staying active by walking, running in numerous Boilermakers, kayaking and skiing; even spending time as a ski instructor at Woods Valley Ski Area. He always kept himself in great shape physically.
He was of the Roman Catholic faith and a lifelong parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort.
Joe is survived by his twin brother, Benny Licari, of Frankfort; his sister, Carol Cavaretta, of Frankfort; his nephews, Leonard Cavaretta, III and fiancé, Krista Paulsen, of Frankfort, and Jeremy Cavaretta and wife, Andrea, of Averill Park, NY; his great-nieces and nephews, Veronica Cavaretta and Michael Loomis, Victoria Cavaretta, Christopher Pritchard, Arianna Cavaretta and Gabriella Cavaretta; one great-great niece, Milena Jean Loomis; and numerous cousins and friends.
Aside from his parents, Joe was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Leonard Cavaretta, Jr. and his nephew, Justin Cavaretta.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend Joe’s funeral service on Monday morning, March 11, 2024, at 10:30AM at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church in Frankfort where his Funeral Mass will be offered by Rev. Paul Catena, Pastor. The family will receive visitors at the conclusion of Mass.
