Mr. John R. Nemcek, age 76, of 218 Loomis St., Little Falls, beloved husband of Geraldine "Judy" Nemcek, entered into eternal rest on Monday evening, March 24, 2003 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Utica, following a brief illness. Mr. Nemcek was born on October 24, 1926 in Little Falls a son of the late Paul and Elizabeth (Mocko) Nemcek. He graduated from Little Falls High School with the class of 1944 and was a lifelong resident of Little Falls. John proudly served our country with the United States Navy. On June 29, 1947 he was joined in marriage with the former Geraldine "Judy" Grainer in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls. They shared a close and loving union of 55 years. He was last employed for many years as housing director of the Little Falls Housing Authority. At one time he was employed by the Merchant's Mutual Insurance Company, where he served for 20 years. He began his working career as a New York State Trooper throughout Central New York. His faith was very important to him and was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls. Mr. Nemcek was a tremendous sports fan. He spearheaded the growth and development of the Little Falls Pop Warner League and was part owner of the Little Falls Met's. He enjoyed watching the Syracuse University Sports Teams. John was a respected businessman involving himself with many community-oriented activities. He was a man who gave freely of himself, his time and gifts for the benefit of his family, friends and colleagues. He was a member of the Little Falls Elk's Lodge #42, served on the Little Falls Board of Public Works, the Little Falls Police and Fire Boards and was involved with the former Shriners Temple in Little Falls. He enjoyed taking care of his home and conversing with his friends at McDonald's in Little Falls and was a collector of model cars. He leaves his beloved wife of Geraldine, of the home address, two sons, John Paul Nemcek of Little Falls and Robert F. Nemcek and wife Janice of Little Falls, two cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth A. Nemcek of Utica and Clint R. Nemcek of Little Falls and one cherished great grandson, Steven Banks of Utica, nieces and nephews, Eric Nemcek and family of Utah, Karen Nemcek and family of Utah, Ellyn Cavanaugh and family of Maryland and David Ford and family of Nevada. Also surviving are many inlaws, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul L. Nemcek and Stephen Nemcek and a sister, Elizabeth Cavanaugh. Visitation at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Nemcek's funeral will commence at 9:30 am on Thursday morning, March 27, from the funeral home and at 10am from the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Gansevoort St., Little Falls with the Rev. Carl Evans, pastor, officiating. John will be laid to rest this spring in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls where full military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy. In lieu of floral offerings kindly consider honoring John's memory with contributions to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, envelopes are available at the funeral home. The family extends its sincere gratitude to the staffs at Little Falls Hospital and St. Elizabeth's Hospital for the deep personal concern and the compassionate care given to John and his family during this difficult time. Members of the Little Falls Elk's Lodge #42 will gather at the funeral home at 6 pm on Wednesday evening to conduct their service.
