ILION-HERKIMER – John “Jack” M. Kress, Sr., age 90, of Herkimer, formerly of 36 High St., Ilion, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Wynn Hospital in Utica, surrounded by his wife, Lillian, and family.
He was born on August 23, 1934, in Utica, the son of Leo J. and Helen (Orgel) Kress, and graduated from UFA. Jack proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1963. On November 7, 1959, he married Lillian Smith. He worked as a technician at General Electric in Utica for over 30 years. Jack was a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion, the Mohawk American Legion, and a former member of the Ilion Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Lillian; his daughters, Michele Stone (Michael) and Donna Fedor; his sons, John Kress (Jean) and Paul Kress; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, Leo and Helen Kress; his brother, Robert Kress; his sisters, Helen Knepka and Beverly Hayes; and several grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion, with Father Paul Catena, officiating.
