John J. "Jack" O'Connell

HERKIMER - Mr. John J. "Jack" O'Connell, of North Prospect Street in Herkimer, NY, died peacefully on Saturday evening July 18, 2015 at the Katherine Luther Residential Health Care & Rehabilitation Center, town of Kirkland, NY. John was 91. He received wonderful care at that facility with special mention to the Saul Unit and his friend Herb Kay.



He was born on May 23, 1924 in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late John and Ida (Hysinger) O'Connell. He was a longtime area resident and was educated in Brooklyn schools. His service to our country began in 1942, World War II era. He was a United States Navy Veteran and his Honorable Discharge was dated 1948. He was part of the Herkimer World War II Veteran trip in 2004. His memberships were inclusive to Herkimer VFW Michael S. Pliseck Post #4915, lifetime member, Herkimer American Legion and the DAV of Utica, lifetime member. He retired from Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, NY in the field of typewriter repair.



Funeral Services will be held on Thursday July 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM at The Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street in Herkimer, NY with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer in the veteran's section with full military honors. Calling hours at the Enea Family Funeral Home, will be one hour prior to the funeral service Thursday morning.
