John R. Gokey

MOHAWK – John R. Gokey, born August 9, 1945, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2025, at the age of 79.
He was a big-hearted man that loved to make people laugh with his rare sense of humor. He was very outgoing, enjoyed time with his family and chatting it up with his friends over a hot one.
He had a special family place in the Adirondacks that he enjoyed visiting all of his life. He even went there just a short time ago for a Father’s Day out. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by so many.
John is survived by his wife, Charlotte Gokey of Herkimer; a son, John Gokey, and his wife, Brandy, of Mohawk; his grandson, Branden Gokey of Mohawk; his twin brother, Alfred Gokey of Mohawk; his special nephews, Dan Brown and his family (Althea, Amelia and Arlo) of Herkimer and Doug Brown of Herkimer; a special niece, Denise Brown of Herkimer; as well as a special cousin, Cheryl Gokey of Herkimer.
He was predeceased by his parents, Nellie (Richard) Gokey and Alfred Gokey; sisters, Dorothy Brown and Carol Cross; and his brother-in-law, Dennis Cross.
There will be no formal services at this time. John’s earthly remains will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, at a later date and time.
