John Kevin Carrig
June 19th, 1948 – October 1st, 2025
Born John Kevin Carrig on June 19th, 1948, in Little Falls, New York, Kevin was the son of John Carrig and Agnes (Ehlinger) Ashley.
Kevin graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1967 while working each morning on the Carrig Dairy Farm. He went on to serve in the U.S. Navy as a medic before continuing his career at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown as an OR technician.
In September of 1973, Kevin married JoAnn Launt. Together they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where Kevin attended the University of Utah, began a successful career in both residential & commercial construction, and became a proud father to Aaron and Daniel. He formed lasting friendships while working alongside family. Whether skiing in the Rockies, playing bridge, or being the” DA” on Tacky Tours, Kevin found joy in family, community, and connection. Eventually, the family returned to Central New York, where Kevin continued his work in construction—traveling the country to build retail stores and working locally in Little Falls as a general contractor.
A Friendly Kind of Guy, Kevin was always willing to give what he could and lend a helping hand. He found joy in the simple things: Sunday mornings at Holy Trinity Lutheran and St. Paul’s Universalist Church, conversations at Stewart’s, meals with friends at That Little Place on Main, and live music on Saturdays at Rock Valley Brewing. Known for always having a new joke to share, Kevin had a gift for brightening any moment while quietly carrying his own burdens. He walked everywhere, said hi to everyone he met, and always had places to be and people to see. Kevin deeply loved Little Falls and its community.
A talented woodworker, carpenter, and artist, Kevin was an amazing problem solver who loved figuring out how to make things work. He was an avid reader who took joy in trading books with old friends and writing letters to keep in touch. Frequent calls with his sons, grandchildren, and extended family brought him great happiness. Above all, Kevin treasured the time he had with those he loved.
Kevin is cherished by his sons, Aaron Carrig and wife Terry of Lancaster, and Daniel Carrig of Cooperstown. He was a loving and devoted grandfather to Tristan, Daphne, and Phoebe. He is also survived by his six siblings: Barbara, Bart, Marie, Keith, Nancy, and Steven, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is predeceased by his mother Agnes (Ehlinger) Ashley; stepfather, Dr. Robert Ashley; father, John Carrig; sister, Cherilyn LeVick; and brother, Paul Carrig.
Family, friends & community are invited to attend a Memorial service Saturday October 18, 2025, at 10 am at Saint Paul's Universalist Church. A celebration of life will follow at Noon at Rock Valley Brewing Co.
The family asks that you honor Kevin by reading a good book, writing a friend a letter, taking a walk with family, telling a joke, and supporting a local business. Kevin’s spirit lives on in the community he loved, the stories he shared, and the lives he touched.
