John Bernier

Mr. John Bernier, 86, of Herkimer, beloved husband of Jeanne Bernier, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 17, 2003 in Folts Homes, Herkimer. John was born on October 19, 1916 in the Province of Quebec a son of the late Thomas and Caroline (Bargone) Bernier. He was educated in Montreal schools. On April 23, 1938 John was united in marriage with the former Jeanne Paul in Montreal. They shared a blessed and loving union of 65 years together. John served in the Canadian military. His last employment was with Laurentien Kitchen's in Montreal, Canada. He was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. Blessed with the ability to work with his hands, John was a master craftsman and he enjoyed taking on new projects. He will be forever remembered as a well dressed and well mannered man. He leaves his wife, Jeanne of Herkimer, two sons, Claude Bernier and wife Angelique of Herkimer and Gilles Bernier of Florida, a daughter, Helene Logan and husband Edward of Pittsfield, NY, seven grandchildren, Tammy, Jim, Jennifer, Tom, Donna, Jeffrey and Christine, two step grandchildren, Brittany and Benjamin. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, John Bernier, Jr., and his brothers and sisters in Canada. Visitation at the Holleran-Enea Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2003 from 5-8 p.m. John's funeral will commence at 9:30 am on Monday, July 21, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered thence to St. Francis de Sales Church, Bellinger St., Herkimer where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer where John will be laid to rest.
