November 17, 1945 — April 3, 2024

With heavy hearts, the family of John Merritt Ammermann, age 78, announces his passing on Wednesday, April 3, 2024. His passing occurred in the privacy and comfort of his home.

John was born on November 17, 1945, in Margaretville, NY, to the late Gloria and John Ammermann. Shortly after graduating high school, John traveled to Mohawk where he met the love of his life, Susan March, while pumping gas at Holt Brothers. They wed in November of 1965 and have enjoyed a blessed and devoted union of over fifty-eight years.

Throughout his career, John worked at Remington Arms for seventeen years, was a rural mail carrier, and owned and operated The Montana House. His last employment was as a car salesman.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; his children, John Ammermann (Ruth), Jennifer Ammermann (Allen) and Peggy Hyde (Beamer); and his grandchildren, Karly Murphy, Kayleigh LaQuay (Keith), Kayla Smith (Bill), Jesica Gilbert (Josiah), Tyler Ammermann (Chelsey), Stephen Ammermann, Sammy Hyde and Ally Hyde (Cody). He also leaves his great-grandchildren, Carter, Casey, Brynlee and Mason Metott, Evann Wade and Merritt Smith, ZayLynn Burks, Jacie Gilbert, Brynlee Ammermann, Emily Ammermann and Oliver and Murphy LaQuay.

John was predeceased by both of his parents; his in-laws, Margaret and Lester March; his son, Stephen Ammermann; and his grandson, Joshua Ammermann.

John made many friends along his life’s journey who will certainly miss him. His family is appreciative to the Hospice Care team, especially Ann; as well as to the caring staff at the Bassett Cancer Center.

In keeping with John's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate funeral directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com .
