HERKIMER: Jewett F. Humphreys, 84, a long time Herkimer Resident, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Albany County Nursing Home, Albany, NY.
Born in New Berlin, NY on August 25, 1929, he was the son of the late William A. and Mary (Mathewson) Humphreys. He was the oldest of 12 children and spent the last 2 years of his life living with his niece Christina and her family. Jewett had a spit fire personality, but once you got to know him, he was a perfect gentleman. He loved the "Man in Black", Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash.
He is survived by his brothers, Earl , Ed and Eugene Humphreys; his niece, Christina Tice and husband Joe Polin and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Helen, Henrietta, Nellie, Carrie, Charlotte, William, Charles and Calvin.
There will be no public calling hours and interment will take place privately at the convenience of the family later in the spring.
