Jean M. Garrow

HERKIMER – Jean M. Garrow, age 71, of McKennan Rd., Herkimer, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, after a turbulent affair with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma (a rare form of cancer), at the Abraham House, in Utica.

She was born on December 6, 1945 in Herkimer, the daughter of Amos Nichols and Irene (Lynch) Nichols.  Jean graduated from St. Francis de Sales School, Herkimer, Herkimer High School, Utica School for Practical Nurses, HCCC, Utica College, and Syracuse University, receiving MS, RN, and CNS degrees.  On July 17, 1965, she was married to Gary Garrow at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer.  Jean was employed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Kids Oneida in Utica.  She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Herkimer.

Surviving family members include her husband, Gary; her son, Sean Garrow, and companion, Melissa Kehler and her son, Sean, of Sauquoit; her son-in-law, Terry Hoyt, of Vancouver, Washington; her brother, David Nichols, of Latham; her sister, Alice Chassaing, of Barrington, RI; several nieces, nephews, cousins; sister-in-law, Starr Goeble; and her Kids Oneida family “HONEYS”.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Julie Hoyt, on October 15, 2014; and her parents.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend Jean’s Funeral Mass on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Francis de Sales Church, 219 N. Bellinger St., Herkimer, with Rev. Mark Cunningham, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery on her family lot.

In keeping with Jean’s wishes, there are no scheduled calling hours.

Jean’s family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Abraham House for their excellent care and compassion shown to Jean.
