Janet L. Bellstedt, 69, of 8 Warren St., Mohawk, formerly of Ilion, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at home. She was born on April 21, 1937, in Utica, the daughter of Lawrence "Mike" and Irma "June" (Ackler) Brunette and graduated from West Winfield Central School in 1956. On March 10, 1962, she was married to Walter G. Bellstedt in Montrose, Pa. He died in 1984. Janet worked at MDS for 20 years and was known as "Bumper." She was a life member of the Ilion-Frankfort VFW Post 502 Auxiliary and Amvets 777 Auxiliary. Janet enjoyed camping and her dogs. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Karen of Mohawk, Karl and Shirley of Ilion, Lawrence and Pamala of Herkimer and Walter of Utica; 13 grandchildren, Christina, William, Bradley, Casie, Kaleigh, Janet, Nicole, Wally, Jessica, Karen, Michael, Matthew and Jacqueline; several great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ora Anne and Edward Gilbert of Wellesley Island, N.Y., Linda Slobodian of Waterville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Claudia Brunette of West Winfield, Robert and Koren Brunette of Ashboro, N.C.; her aunt, Rita Brown of Mohawk; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her companion of 15 years, Sam Skandera. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with the Rev. Robert Wollaber officiating. Spring interment will be in Dennison Corners Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. prior to the service at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home. The VFW Post 502 Auxiliary service will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and the Amvets 777 Auxiliary service will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Anyone needing a ride to the calling hours and/or service may call the funeral home at 895-7722 for complimentary transportation assistance. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Special envelopes are available at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home.
