Jane (Vrooman) Smith, age 83, of 190 Vrooman Rd., Mohawk, died Saturday, May 21, 2005, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare, New Hartford. She was born in Mohawk, the daughter of John W. and Mildred (Jones) Vrooman. On May 29, 1942, Jane was married to William "Bill" Smith at the Vrooman Homestead. She was a junior accountant at MDS for 15 years retiring in 1985. Jane was an active volunteer at the Mohawk Homestead for 17 years. She was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Little Falls, Herkimer Lady Elks #1439, Mohawk Garden Club, and a former member of the Mohawk O.E.S. Jane enjoyed baking. Survivors include her husband, Bill; her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bob Lewthwaite of Rome, her son and daughter-in-law, Don and Mary Smith of Ilion; three grandchildren, Bradley and Ryan Lewthwaite, Haley Smith; her sister, Betty Beuhler of Little Falls; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Marjorie Holms; and her parents. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 588 Albany St., Little Falls, where a Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated by the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, Rector. Interment will be in Mohawk Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, May 23, 2005, from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Graves-Applegate-Day Funeral Home, 48 E. Main St., Mohawk. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church or The Mohawk Homestead.
