Jane A. Johnson

ILION – Jane A. Johnson, age 99, of Ilion, formerly of Herkimer and Frankfort , passed away peacefully on Monday, December 10, 2018, at the Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Home, Ilion , where she had resided during the past 3 years.

She was born on March 31, 1919, in Frankfort , the daughter of Leslie D. VanNort and Florence Viola (Logie) VanNort and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1938.  At one time, she was married to Clarence Evans who died in 1973.  Jane later married William Miller who died several years ago.  Most recently she was married to Locklin Johnson who died in 2006.  Jane was an active lifetime member of the Salvation Army, of Herkimer and worked the Christmas kettles for over 60 years.

Surviving family members include her 2 sons and 1 daughter-in law, Laurence and Dawn Evans and Daniel “Dan” Evans, all of Herkimer; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her sisters, Florence Staffo and Kathleen Bulkley; 2 brothers, Calvin and Lloyd VanNort; and her son, Richard “Dick” Evans.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St., Ilion, with Capt. John Wood, officiating.  Spring burial will be at Mt. View Memorial Gardens , Town of Little Falls .

Calling hours are Wednesday, December 12, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. prior to the funeral home service.

Jane’s service arrangements and supervision were prearranged and are entrusted to her Family Funeral Director and friend, Don Applegate.
