FORT PLAIN - It is with great sadness that the family of Jan S. Dingman announce his passing on June 24th, 2025, in Palatine Bridge, New York. Jan was 83 years old.
Born in Little Falls, NY on November 13th, 1941. Jan was the son of the late Stanley and Stephanie (Bialock) Dingman. He was raised in St. Johnsville, New York, where he graduated from St. Johnsville Central School.
On December 5th, 1963, Jan was drafted into the Armed Forces of the United States. Jan was deployed to Vietnam, where he served 2 years of active duty (boots on the ground). Jan was Honorably Discharged as a Private. While in the Armed Forces Jan received a marksman shooting badge and a Vietnam Service Medal.
After his service Jan began roofing for many years. He became a skilled carpenter. During his free time Jan enjoyed raising pigs and taking camping trips with his family on horseback. Jan loved to have picnics with his friends and family and enjoying a few cold ones with loved ones.
On June 24th, 2025, Jan was reunited with his beloved wife Leona (Crouse) Dingman. On October 12th, 1968, they were united in marriage at St. Paul’s Lutheran Parsonage. Jan and Leona were together until her passing on December 24th, 2009.
Jan is survived by his son Kenneth Dingman and his stepchildren Ernie (Janice), Donna, Nancy (predeceased husband William Cole), Danny, Joann, Kimmy, Tina (Charles), Jill; many grandchildren, great - grandchildren, and great - great - grandchildren; as well as his brother and sister, Don Dingman and Gail Capece; and his nephews.
Jan is predeceased by his loving parents Stanley and Stephanie (Bialock) Dingman; his stepson Donald Crouse, son in law William Cole, and grandson Ernest Jr. (“Pooh Bear”).
A graveside service will be held on Thursday July 10th, 2025, at 10:00am at the Freysbush Cemetery in Fort Plain, NY. This service will be officiated by Pastor Thomas Flander, Jr. of the Glen Reformed Church. We as a family will be honored to witness a full military tribute in loving memory of Jan’s dedicated service to our country.
