ILION - James “Jimbo” Rowland, 73, of Ilion, passed away on January 20th after a long battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully with many of his relatives by his side.

Jimbo is survived by his loving partner of 24 years, Helene Hamlin, his children and their spouses, Sue and Charles Hurteau of Ilion and Bonnie and Tim Warner of Whitesboro, his sister Cathy Latt and brother Robert Rowland, both of Ilion, 6 grandchildren : Jimmy Talbot, Todd Coonradt, Tanya Hurteau, Shannon Perkett, Tracy Shufelt (spouse Chris) and Jessica Labella (spouse Rob) and 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Jim was blessed in having many friends and particularly special friends as follows: Dave Cole “Jr” of Ilion , Courtney Dilberto of Charlotte NC, Ted Karpiak of Herkimer, Lynda Franklin of Ilion, and best friend of many years, Charles Hurteau.

Jim is predeceased by his ex-wife Dorothy Rowland, brothers Clifford “Chub” Rowland ,Louis “Skeeter” Rowland and grandson David Talbot.

For 31 years Jimbo was employed by the Village of Ilion Department of Public works. He worked 15 years on the streets and 16 years as the Superintendent of the DPW. Jim also served his country in the 101st Airborne Division/Screaming Eagles, having been honorably discharged in 1964.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (Town of Frankfort) NY (315) 894-8000. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Jan 24 from 2:00 to 5:30, at which time there will be a military color guard to fold and present the flag. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
