Mr. James E. Moynihan, 71, of Central Square, a Little Falls native, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 in Central Square. He was born on June 15, 1932 in Little Falls, a son of the late Bernard, Sr., and Mary (Flynn) Moynihan and was a graduate of the St. Mary's Academy, Class of 1950. He graduated from Morrisville College in 1957. He has been a resident in the Syracuse area since 1959. He joined hands in marriage with the former Kathryn M. Ostrom on January 11, 1958 in St. Joseph's Church, Dolgeville, a loving union of 46 years. Mr. Moynihan proudly served his country with the United States Marine Corps. He was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He fought in the Korean War with the 1st Marine Division serving as a machine gunner. His heroic service is to be commended for surviving one of the Korean War's major battles at the Choson Resovoir. He was last employed as a roofing constructor in Syracuse, retiring in 1994 and was of the Catholic Faith. Mr. Moynihan was a man who was proud of his Irish heritage and especially those activities that were oriented toward the Irish customs and traditions. He always fulfilled the roles of husband, son, brother and friend with admirable competence and efficiency. Survivors include his mother, Mary, his wife, Kathryn, two brothers, Bernard Moynihan, Jr., and wife Gail of Herkimer, William Moynihan and wife Irene of Hamilton, a sister, Cathleen Moynihan of Little Falls, many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family invites relatives and friends to visitation at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls on Sunday, February 22, 2004 from 5-8 p.m. Jim's funeral will commence at 10:15 am on Monday morning, from the chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered thence to Holy Family Parish, Little Falls where his Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am by the Rev. Kenneth Swain. Funeral procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, town of Herkimer where he will be laid to rest and full military honors will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps. Expressions of sympathy may be made to a favorite charity, envelopes are available at the Enea Funeral Home, Little Falls.
