Mr. James L. Kelly, 85, of 104 North Washington Street, Herkimer, a former resident of Whitesboro, passed away on Saturday morning, January 17, 2004 in Herkimer. br>He was born on May 5, 1918 in Oneonta, son of the late Philip J. and Hazel (Allen) Kelly. James was a graduate of Morrisville College. He was married to Erma Marie (Wagner) Kelly, and later to Dorothy Gates Kelly, both of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Kelly was a veteran of the United States Army, having served our country during World War II. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star for his committment to our country. He had worked for many years with Univac at the Ilion location, and last worked as a repairman with Oppers Custom Kitchens in the Utica-Rome areas. He was a lifetime member of the Herkimer Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post #4915. He lived the majority of his life in the Mohawk Valley. He is survived by his children, including two sons: Edward J. Kelly and wife Jeanette of Avon, NY; and William C. Kelly of Bucksport, Maine; a daughter: Joan Winder and husband Paul of Lyons, NY; granchildren: Daniel & David Kelly and Jessica and Jennifer Schrier; two great grandchildren: Anthony & Joseph; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers: Paul & George Alston Kelly. Funeral services will be held on Monday evening, January 19, 2004 at 7:00 PM in the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday evening at 6:00 PM until the time of the service. The members of the Herkimer VFW will gather Monday evening at 6:00 PM for service to their fallen comrade. Interment will take place with full military honors this spring at Riverside Cemetery, Oneonta. Those wishing are asked to consider donations to the Folts Homes of Herkimer, where winderful care was extended to the Kelly Family.
