James Kelly

Mr. James L. Kelly, 85, of 104 North Washington Street, Herkimer, a former resident of Whitesboro, passed away on Saturday morning, January 17, 2004 in Herkimer. br>He was born on May 5, 1918 in Oneonta, son of the late Philip J. and Hazel (Allen) Kelly. James was a graduate of Morrisville College. He was married to Erma Marie (Wagner) Kelly, and later to Dorothy Gates Kelly, both of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Kelly was a veteran of the United States Army, having served our country during World War II. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star for his committment to our country. He had worked for many years with Univac at the Ilion location, and last worked as a repairman with Oppers Custom Kitchens in the Utica-Rome areas. He was a lifetime member of the Herkimer Michael S. Pliseck VFW Post #4915. He lived the majority of his life in the Mohawk Valley. He is survived by his children, including two sons: Edward J. Kelly and wife Jeanette of Avon, NY; and William C. Kelly of Bucksport, Maine; a daughter: Joan Winder and husband Paul of Lyons, NY; granchildren: Daniel & David Kelly and Jessica and Jennifer Schrier; two great grandchildren: Anthony & Joseph; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers: Paul & George Alston Kelly. Funeral services will be held on Monday evening, January 19, 2004 at 7:00 PM in the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Monday evening at 6:00 PM until the time of the service. The members of the Herkimer VFW will gather Monday evening at 6:00 PM for service to their fallen comrade. Interment will take place with full military honors this spring at Riverside Cemetery, Oneonta.
