FRANKFORT - James Richard Hurteau was born on May 8th, 1961, in Ilion, NY, and passed away at home with his family by his side on August 25th, 2025.
James graduated from Ilion High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1979 to 1982, including time overseas. Following his service, he worked for Union Fork and Hoe from 1984 until its closure in 2007, and later for Divine Brothers Company from 2008 until his retirement in 2023.
Jim had a passion for the outdoors and a love of hunting. He also enjoyed the freedom of riding his Harley Davidson, whether on his own or alongside his brothers. At home, he cherished the companionship of his animals throughout the years, who were a special part of his life.
He is survived by his mother, Sandra Hurteau, and her partner, Linda Guyer; his daughters, Ashley Hurteau (Shawn) and Melissa Miller (Chad); and his beloved grandchildren, Thayne, Mikayla, Kaden, Corbin, and McKinley. He is also survived by his brothers, Chuck (Nora), Terry (Crystal), and Jeffery (Kathy); his sisters, Cindy Nichols (Ted) and Kelly; along with many nieces and nephews with whom he shared a close bond.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hurteau (1986); his wife, Brenda Guyer Hurteau (2018); and his stepson, Michael Gushue Jr. (2015).
At Jim’s request, there will be no calling hours. The family will be holding a graveside service at North Columbia Cemetery to honor his life and memory.
