Mr. Jack Edwin Johnson, 73, of 255 Flanders Road, St. Johnsville, town of Oppenheim, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003, at his residence after a brief illness. Jack was born in Dolgeville on January 19, 1930, the son of the late Edwin and Helen (Sheppard) Johnson and attended schools in Dolgeville, Curtis and Stratford. He served honorably during the Korean war with the United States Marines from 1952-54, being honorably discharged in Arlington, Va. His marriage to the former Theresa Congdon took place on February 15, 1948, in the Dolgeville United Methodist Church parsonage. The couple celebrated 55 years of marriage this past year. He was employed by the Daniel Green Company both prior to going into the service and upon being discharged. He then with his wife bought a farm in the town of Oppenheim in 1958 and farmed until 1999 when his barn burnt. Jack was a member of the American Legion Post of Fort Plain and he personally enjoyed rabbit hunting, fishing and working his farm with his family. He is survived by his wife, Theresa; a son, James Johnson at home; a daughter, Diane Johnson at home; his brother and his wife, Chris and Nandine Johnson of Dolgeville; his sisters and their husbands, Betty and David Smith of Lassellsville, Norma and Philip Stone of Canastota and Donna and Gary Shibley of Florida; his sisters-in-law, Pearl Johnson and Helen Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Roxanne; his brothers, Dean and Gordon Johnson; and his sister and her husband, Janet and Pat Herringshaw. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 3, at 1 p.m. at the Roberts-Buck Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville. The Rev. James Thomas will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in Salisbury Rural Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 4-7 p.m.
