Mr. J. Brady Thomas, Sr. age 84 of 133 Cemetery St., Frankfort, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2004 at his home after a long illness. He was born in Newport, NY on January 15, 1920, the son of the late Leslie Francis and Catherine (Brady) Thomas. In 1937, he graduated from St. Francis de Sales in Utica and later attended Niagara University. Brady was united in marriage to Frances Griffin on August 18, 1941 at St Francis de Sales in Herkimer enjoying a loving union of over 62 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served our country with the United States Army, stationed in the Philippines. For 28 years until his retirement, Brady owned and operated the J. Brady Thomas Insurance agency in Frankfort, NY. He was a long-time member of Kiwanis International (Frankfort), past president of the American Red Cross and after retirement a Senior Volunteer with Catholic Charities. He was a communicant and trustee of Sts. Peter and Paul Church then later Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church, Frankfort, as well as a 4th degree Knight with the Ilion Knights of Columbus. Through these and other activities, Brady showed much care and concern for many throughout the Mohawk Valley. He is survived by his beloved family including his wife, Frances; his children: Mary Mellum & her husband Roger of Houston, TX; Joan Morris and her husband Lloyd of Anchorage, AK, John B. Thomas, Jr. and his wife Noreen (Durant) of Delmar; Christine Farrington and her husband Thomas of Anchorage, AK; Theresa Thomas Dreyer of Las Vegas, NV; Clare Manino and her husband Charles of Frankfort; Leslie Moore and her husband Joseph of Richmond, VA; and Peter J. Thomas and his wife Karen (Yurchison) of Stow, OH; 28 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren: five sisters: Mary Mathers of Saratoga, NY; Rita Ewers and her husband Ormond of Clinton; Catherine McLaughlin and her husband James of Herkimer; Jane Collins and her husband James of Frankfort; and Anne Blasting of Herkimer; In laws: Jeanne Kotary of Herkimer and Paul Griffin and his wife R uth of Albany along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and his foreign exchange student daughter, Ana Luz de Franco of El Salvador. He was predeceased by his brother Francis X. Thomas. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Hospice Care especially Vicki, Theresa, Judy and Sister Sharon as well as his other care-givers Betty and Michaelene for the kindness, compassion, and care they extended to Brady during his illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours for J. Brady Thomas at the Enea Family Funeral Home, Main St. between Frankfort and Ilion on Friday, February 6th from 4-8 p.m. His funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9:15 a.m. at the Chapel of the funeral home where prayer will be offered and at 10 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church, Frankfort where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. John Yanas, Pastor. Interment will take place this spring at Calvary Cemetery in Herkimer with full military honors. The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Rd. New Hartford, NY 13413 or St. Joseph House, an orphanage in the Philippines. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. The following organizations will gather in a body at the funeral home on Friday evening to conduct their service: The Ilion Knights of Columbus at 7 p.m. and the Frankfort Kiwanis at 7:15 p.m. Friends are invited to join us in saying good-bye.
