FRANKFORT - With heavy hearts and profound gratitude, we announce the passing of Mrs. Ida Oliveri at the age of 89. Her passing occurred in the comfort of her home, surrounded by those she so dearly loved.
Born into a loving family as one of five children to the late Girolamo Russo and Louisa Diliberto in San Giuseppe Jato, Sicily, Italy, Ida's journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith, devotion to family, and an extraordinary capacity for kindness.
In 1955, she and her family made the courageous decision to emigrate to the United States, where Ida worked diligently as a seamstress at Joseph & Feiss. In 1960, she returned on a visit to her homeland, where she met and married Rosolino Giuseppe Oliveri, in a joyous celebration of love and family. They settled in Frankfort, New York, where they welcomed their three cherished children into the world.
Ida was not only a beloved wife but also a devoted mother and doting grandmother, imparting her wisdom and warmth to all who knew her. Her legacy of unwavering faith and the lessons she imparted about living a good life will be remembered fondly by all who were blessed to know her.
A woman of deep Roman Catholic faith, Ida actively participated in the community of St. Mary's and Our Lady Queen of the Apostles Church in Frankfort, where she devoted her time to the altar rosary society and volunteered for the local Catholic Charities pantry. As a testament to her devotion, she also made pilgrimages to the Holy Land and Medjugorje.
Her unwavering commitment to her faith, encapsulated by her belief in the trinity of Faith, Family, and Food, guided her daily life and in the end, how to die with dignity and grace. She often expressed that "the family that ate together, stayed together," A sentiment that has resonated with her family through the generations, and all she encountered.
Ida is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Ross Oliveri; her son, Frank Oliveri; her daughter and son-in-law, Gracie and David Drapalski; her grandson, Tommy; her son and daughter-in-law, Gerry and Patricia Oliveri; and her granddaughters, Rosa & George Karam, and Bianca & Strahinja Teodosic.
She is also survived by her brothers, Carmen and Carol Russo of Florida and Salvatore and Frankie Russo of North Carolina, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and their families who also held her close to their hearts; namely, Tony, Maria and Sevi Russo; Bryan and Gina Russo Karnes; Nicholas, Sydney, Weston, and Walker Russo; John, Lisina and Elias Stoneburner; Jerry, Sue and Julia Russo; Mario, Lisina and Alessio Cordova-Russo.
Ida was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph, and sister-in-law, Eva Russo, and her sister, Salesian Sr. Elizabeth Russo.
The family expresses profound gratitude to the dedicated staff of Hospice Care for their compassion and support during this challenging time. We are deeply appreciative of the outpouring of kindness from friends and family who have supported us with thoughtful gestures, food, and supplies and support in navigating difficult situations in our time of need; your generosity will forever be remembered.
