Howard N. Smith, 83 a long time St. Johnsville resident passed away on Saturday October 9, 2004 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home. He was born November 25, 1920 in the town of Ephratah, the son of the late Alonzo & Bessie (Cretser) Smith. Howard attended Dolgeville & Scotchbush schools. He was married to the former Elizabeth Alkinburg on October 6, 1940 in Scotchbush, NY. Howard was last employed at White Mop Wringer in Fultonville and prior to that he worked many years on the railroad. Mr. Smith was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Scotchbush and was a member of the Lassellsville Senior Citizens. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth, 2 sons; Harry Smith and wife Shannon of Amsterdam & David R. Smith and wife Betty of Lassellsville, 3 daughters; Alice Gallt and husband Charles of Lassellsville, Bessie Getman and husband Dayton of Lassellsville & Naomi Abare of Emmonsburg, 2 brothers: Harold Smith and wife Hattie of Lassellsville & Clyde Smith and wife Doris of Caroga, NY, many grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was pre-deceased by 2 sons; William & Howard Smith , Jr. a grandson; Kyle Smith and a great grandson; Greg Getman. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 13, 2004 at 11:00 am from the Smith ? woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville with Reverend R.W. Williams, officiating. Burial will be in Fical Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Tuesday October 12, 2004 from 5-8 pm. In lieu of flowers, all memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
