Herbert Humphreys

Herbert E. Humphreys, 89 of the Valley Health Services and formerly of Stratford, passed away on Monday March 20, 2006 at the facility. He was born April 23, 1916 in the Town of Fairfield, the son of the late Charles & Julia (Dibble) Humphreys and was educated in Fairfield schools. His marriage to Virginia Belcher took place on June 29, 1947 at the Universalist Church in Dolgeville. Mr. Humphreys was a World War II Army Veteran, being honorably discharged on October 5, 1945. Herbert was last employed at the Adirondack Bat Company in Dolgeville. Prior to that he worked for over 20 years at the former Standard Furniture Company in Herkimer. After his retirement in 1980, Herbert worked part time as a custodian for many businesses in Dolgeville. Mr. Humphreys was a member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church and the Herkimer VFW. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Virginia of Stratford, 2 sons, Grant Humphreys and wife Deborah of Amsterdam, & Elon Humphreys and wife Darlene of Stratford, 3 grandchildren, Shayna & Brett Humphreys and Ethan Humphreys, and several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was pre-deceased by 8 brothers & 3 sisters. In keeping with Herbert?s wishes, funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Roberts & Enea Family Funeral Home, 3 Faville Ave., Dolgeville, NY.
