ILION – Helena May Paschke, age 95, of W. North St., Ilion, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, with her loving family by her side.
She was born on October 12, 1921, in Carthage, NY, the daughter of Everett and Lena (Abel) Reed, and attended Ilion schools. On February 2, 1940, she was married to Robert Paschke in Hartford, CT. He died on December 7, 1981. In her early years, she was employed at Mele Manufacturing, Utica. Helena enjoyed playing cards, visiting with family near and far, and shopping. She also liked going to camp in Forestport and visiting friends in Canastota and Weedsport, NY.
Surviving family members include her daughters, Carol Kinville and Robert Kinville, of Ilion, and Barbara Buzzell and her husband, Ed, of Canaan, NH; her son, Robert Paschke, Jr., of Ilion; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends; her nephew, Jerry Reed, Joyce Gage, Irma and Frank Dineen, Barry Doolin,Terry Wheeler, Vivian Herkel, Paul Freeman and Robert Kinville.
She was predeceased by her husband; and her brother, Robert Reed, on February 26, 2009.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s original location at 102 West St., Ilion.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend Helena’s Celebration of Life and Prayer Service on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. (at the conclusion of calling hours). Spring burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Ilion Ambulance Fund, Central Fire Station, Ilion, NY 13357, or food donations would be appreciated for the gathering after the services.
The family has entrusted Helena’s service arrangements and supervision to their Family Funeral Director and friend, Don Applegate.
