Helen Southworth

Helen (Wheeler) Southworth, age 96, formerly of 22 Center St., Ilion, died Friday, December 17, 2004, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer. She was born on March 26, 1908 in Troy, NY, the daughter of John E. and Henrietta (Bosselmean) Thompson. At one time, she was married to Walter Wheeler who died in 1977. Helen later married Fred Southworth on September 19, 1981 in Ilion. He died on September 16, 1990. She was employed as a trip planner at AAA of Utica. Helen enjoyed bowling and her camp in Speculator, NY. She was also a member of the Ilion Women of the Moose. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Richard "Dick" Caulkins of Ilion; two grandchildren, Ed Myers and his wife, Cindy of Little Falls, and Kerry Myers of Dannemora, NY; five great-grandchildren, Amanda, Melissa, Kaitlin and Lauren Myers, and Megan Strack; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday (today), at the Applegate & Day Funeral Home, 102 West St., Ilion, with Pastor Jack Cogar officiating. Interment will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion. Visitation will be held on Sunday (today) from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Speculator Vol. Ambulance Corp., Speculator, NY 12164, or the Ilion Ambulance Fund.
