Helen L. Mccumber

d. November 23, 2012

Helen McCumber, 84, of 62 Main Street, Mohawk Homestead, Mohawk, peacefully went to be with the Lord and her family on November 23, 2012.

She was born on April 2, 1928, in Dolgeville, the daughter of the late Ernest and Anna (Haak) Becker. Helen was educated in Dolgeville schools and lived in the Dolgeville and Herkimer areas.

Helen was married to Norbert McCumber on March 25, 1957 in Dolgeville. They shared a blessed union of 50 years until Norbert's passing on February 14, 2007. She worked for many years at the Eastern Footwear Co. in Dolgeville. Helen later was a seamstress working from her home in Herkimer. She was of the Protestant faith attending church in the First Assembly of God Church in Little Falls and Herkimer.

She went to reside at the Mohawk Homestead on July 19, 2007. Helen was very active there, being lead of the resident's council and being in charge of bingo three times a week. She loved being around the residents and staff.

Helen had no children of her own, but was like a second mother to all her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her loving nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed by them. She was predeceased by all her brothers, Raymond, Oscar and Ernest Becker and her sisters, Edith Randall, Agnes Krawec, Martha Skibinski and a niece, Donna Skibinski Ryder.

In keeping Helen's wishes there will be no public visitation or funeral. Helen will be laid to rest next to her husband, Norbert in Mt. View Memorial Gardens, Little Falls, at the convenience of the family.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at the Mohawk Homestead for all of the loving and compassionate care.
