ILION – Mr. Harold F. Pierce, Jr., age 74, a lifelong Ilion resident, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, September 23, 2024, in the privacy and comfort of his home, with his loving wife by his side.
Born in Ilion on June 29, 1950, Harold was the son of the late Harold F. and Marie O. (Bronson) Pierce. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from Ilion High School with the Class of 1969.
On April 24, 1971, Harold was wed to the former Diane Pierce and together they shared in a loving and blessed union of fifty-three years.
Harold worked hard to support his growing family and through the years he was employed with Remington Arms as well as for the Village of Ilion DPW. Throughout the years he was very involved in volunteering his time to the Ilion boy scouts, Troop 8.
In his free time, he enjoyed hunting deer with his father, attending various football games and camping and tenting with his wife and children. He was an avid fan of Country Western music and had a wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; his daughter, Jennifer Miller of Schuyler; his sons and daughters-in-law, Benjamin and Tammy Pierce of Herkimer, William and Sally Pierce of Ilion, David and Melissa Pierce of Fayetteville, NC and Dennis Pierce and his companion, Liz Reel, of Mohawk; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his sister, Jill Ingraham and her partner, Terry Franklin, of Mohawk; his in-laws, Nick Pierce of Florida and Janet Dunn of Hastings, NY; special cousins, Edna Nelson and Jean O’Brien; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Marie Pierce, Cheryl Pierce, Carol and Harry Leavitt, Linda and Harry Montgomery and Sandra and Larry Wentworth.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Graveside Service in honor of Harold’s life, which will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 10:30AM at Middleville Cemetery where he will be laid to rest in the family plot.
