ILION - Gladys M. Casey, age 80, of High St., Ilion, formerly of Frankfort Hill, NY, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2009, at St. Luke?s Home, New Hartford. She was born on January 16, 1929, in Utica, the daughter of Andrew and Barbara (Filas) Biernat. Gladys graduated from Frankfort Hill School and Utica Free Academy. On September 5, 1959, she was married to James J. Casey at St. Stanislaus Church, Utica. At one time, she was employed at General Electric Co., Utica. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation. Gladys cherished the times she spent singing with her family and having tea with her daughter. She looked forward to her visits to Polishtown, L.I., Auriesville Shrine and the Pulaski Parade in New York City. She also enjoyed her cat, Savannah. Survivors include her husband, ?Jim?; her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Scott Ameduri, of Miamisburg, OH; two sisters, Mary Ellis Baran, of Florida, and Sadie Parkola, of Clinton; two brothers, Stanley Biernat, of Florida, and Frank Biernat, of Utica; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends, Gloria Pry, Carmella Kaczowka, Clara Wilson and Irene Furgal. She was predeceased by her sisters, Anna Strawinski, Sophie Jones and Sally Lewendowski, and three brothers, Larry, Joseph and John Biernat. Funeral services will be held 9:15 a.m., Thursday, December 10, 2009, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, and 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Anthony Barratt, Pastor, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Entombment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery Mausoleum, Utica. Calling hours are Wednesday, December 9, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Annunciation or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Envelopes are available at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, Ilion.
