Obituary

LITTLE FALLS – Gerald L. Gruby, age 67, a lifelong Mohawk Valley resident, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

Born on November 30, 1958, Gerald was the son of the late Harvey C. Gruby, Sr. and Vera F. (Smith) Gruby. He was raised and educated locally, graduating from Holland Patent High School. He then went on to enlist with the United States Navy, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1982.

As a hard worker and a lifelong machine and forklift operator, Gerald’s last employment was with International Wire in Rome.

He was a kind and gentle man who would do anything for his family and those he loved. He could often be found sitting around the campfire, telling stories and jokes and sharing laughter with others while he looked for Sasquatch!

Gerald loved the great outdoors, and his happiest memories were those spent at camp or out on the water. He appreciated the lake views, the solace of fishing and in his early years, a nice ride on his motorcycle. He had a heart of gold, and his presence will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind.

He is survived by his loving companion of over thirty years, Darlene Suits; his stepsons, Nicholas D. Suits and Richard M. Suits and his wife, Dani; his granddaughters, Rose Suits and Lily Suits; and his brother, William Gruby. He also leaves behind his in-laws, Ron and Lisa Urich; several nieces and nephews and their families; and his beloved canine nephews, Lightning and Thunder.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Harvey C. Gruby, Jr., Gretchen (Gruby) Boudreaux and Frances (Gruby) Walker; and a special nephew, Sean Urich, who passed on December 3, 2015.

A graveside service honoring Gerald’s life will take place at Dibble-Tuttle Cemetery at a date and time to be announced.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea, Ciaccia & Applegate funeral directors. Online notes of sympathy may be left at www.eneafamily.com.
