Mr. George R. Bagans, 83 of Apt. 134, 7230 East Genesee Street, Fayetteville, NY and formerly of State Highway 29 Dolgeville, died Thursday evening September 30, 2004 at his residence in Fayetteville of natural causes. He was born in Little Falls on February 20, 1921 the son of Earl R. and Edna (Greene) Bagans and was a graduate of Little Falls High School, class of 1940. George enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on July 22, 1942 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sgt. on January 3, 1946. During his enlistment, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Area and was a noted Drill Instructor at Paris Island, SC. Upon being discharged he returned to Little Falls where he married Laura Glover on October 26, 1946. She predeceased him on June 7, 1989. On June 27, 1996 he married the former Janet (Sturgess) Hunter in Johnstown, New York. George was employed by the UNIVAC Company as an inspector, retiring from there in 1975. He was a member of the Salisbury Center United Methodist Church, United States Marine Corps Drill Instructor Association, DAY Chapter #82, a former member of the General Herkimer Council BSA, Rock and Mineral Association, and he served on the Herkimer County Board of Veteran's Commissioners since 1963. He is survived by his wife Janet of Fayetteville; a brother Robert E. Bagans of PA; a step daughter Linda Hunter of Idaho, and many friends. Memorial services will be held Saturday October 16, 2004 at 2 PM at the Salisbury Center United Methodist Church. Rev. Royal Blanchard will officiate. Burial will be made in the Salisbury Rural Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorials be sent to the Salisbury Center United Methodist Church in his name.
