HERKIMER - Mr. Gary M. West, 56, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at his home in Herkimer. Gary was born on November 10, 1952 in Westbury, NY, son of Jean (McCardle) West and the late Lawrence West. He graduated from SUNY Oswego with a degree in industrial arts and was employed by the Little Falls City School District. He taught for 35 years in both the middle and high school technology programs and was a well respected educator with great expertise in his field. Gary enjoyed volunteering his time and experience through the years building houses for the Herkimer County Habitat for Humanity. Survivors include his only son Adam West and wife Amy of Maryland, Adam's mother Deborah West of New York, sister Debra McDermott and husband Tom of New York, sister Pat Handy and husband Jim of California, sister Lori Fiore and husband Nick of New York, sister Pam Tew and husband Terry of Colorado, sister Sue Rorbah and husband Paul of New York, sister Kathy West of California, brother David West of New York, brother John West and wife Stephanie of New York, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also surviving are many friends including fellow teachers and students at the Little Falls High School and Middle School. The family will receive relatives and friends for calling hours on Monday, September 14, 2009 from 5pm until 7pm at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St. Herkimer. Funeral services, conducted by Deacon Joseph DeLorenzo, will be on Tuesday September 15, 2009 at 11AM from the Enea Family Funeral Home, Herkimer, followed by interment in the Sauquoit Valley Cemetery, Town of Paris. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Herkimer County Habitat for Humanity P.O. Box 148 Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home.
