SCHUYLER – Mr. Gary Alan Olds, Sr., age 77, a lifelong resident of Schuyler, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, September 5, 2024, at Wynn Hospital. At the time of his passing he had the love and support of his family at his side.
Born on September 9, 1946, Gary was the son of the late Harold and Ruth (Hight) Olds. He grew up in Schuyler and graduated with the Frankfort-Schuyler Class of 1965.
After completion of school, Gary went right to work, always having a strong work ethic and a drive to support his growing family. He worked several different jobs before going to work at Remington Arms where he spent the majority of his career; retiring as a heat treating specialist.
At one time, Gary shared in relationships with Alice Goldsmith and Marcia Kendall, from which he was blessed with his five beloved children. Gary was the consummate family man and everything he did was for the well-being of his children. As his family grew and he became a grandfather, the joy that he gained from the younger generations was endless. He was a selfless, giving man who would do anything for anyone that he loved.
In his spare time, Gary enjoyed the outdoors. He could often be found passing time by doing two of his favorite “chores”, mowing the lawn and cutting firewood! He also enjoyed the games of golf and bowling.
Gary is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Gary (Rachel) Olds, Jr. of Schuyler; his daughters and sons-in-law, Tina (Frederick) Cristman of Ilion, Sheri (Russ) Gaillard of Hoosick Falls, Sarah (Mario) Giambanco of Tampa, FL and Rachel Olds of Dolgeville; his grandchildren, Mark (Samantha) Cristman, Hollyann Devereese, Drew (Joseph) Pollack, Grace Olds, Brianna Hanretty, James Hanretty IV and Emily (Zach) Whitley; along with several great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brothers, Dennis (Geraldine) Olds of Frankfort, Douglas (Karen) Olds of Glens Falls and Brian (Delores) Olds of Schuyler; his brother-in-law, John Schuyler of Frankfort; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Marilyn Schuyler; his half-brother, Bill (Jan) Worden and his half-sister, Evelyn (Herb) Muench.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Graveside Service for Gary on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 1:00PM at East Schuyler Miller Cemetery.
