Mrs. Evelyn A. Miles, 86, of Lassellsville, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas B. Miles; her parents, Arnold Sr. and Bessie Smith; her brothers, Henry, Ralph, Gerald, Robert, Richard, Marvin, and Arnold Smith Jr; as well as her sisters, Bessie Smida and Vivian Calhoun.

Evelyn was born on August 4, 1939, in Oppenheim, New York, the daughter of the late Arnold Sr. and Bessie Smith. Evelyn was a resident of the Saint Johnsville and Lassellsville areas for her entire life, graduating from Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School. She married Thomas B. Miles, on June 11, 1960, an unwavering union that lasted over 58 years. Evelyn was a dedicated employee to the Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School District and had many fond memories of her years working in the school’s cafeteria.

Evelyn was a hardworking and loyal woman, whose family meant everything to her. It was common to visit her home and see her either baking cookies, working in her garden or on a sewing project. When she wasn’t working on something, she could be found sitting on her back porch with a cup of coffee, a pet and at least one family member or friend. Evelyn cherished her time spent with her family and friends, especially Friday nights with her grandchildren and Sunday night gatherings with her family and friends.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Scott Miles and his wife Carla, of St. Johnsville, Kathy Brown and her husband Darren, of Dolgeville; her grandchildren, Brittany Pawelek and her husband Michael of St. Johnsville, Seth Miles and his wife Mallory, of Fonda, Tyler Miles and his wife Mikhaila, of St. Johnsville, Preston Brown and his wife Danielle, of Herkimer, Keagan Brown and his wife Rose, of Ilion, and Sasha Brown andTyler Perkins, of St. Johnsville; her great-grandchildren, Mason Pawelek, Wyatt Brown and Silas Brown; as well as many nieces, nephews, and special friends.

In keeping with her wishes, her immediate family will hold a private graveside service to honor and remember Evelyn at the West St. Johnsville Cemetery. There will be no public services.
