HERKIMER-Mrs. Evelyn M. (Horning) Gay, 81, of Lake Street, entered into eternal rest on Saturday morning, February 13, 2010 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown following a sudden illness. She was born on November 18, 1928 in Palatine Bridge, daughter of the late Oliver and Phoebe (Scott) Horning. She has lived most of her life in the Herkimer area. On November 27, 1948, she was united in marriage with William Gay., Sr. Mr. Gay passed away on January 3, 1987. Evelyn was last employed as a housekeeper with Little Falls Hospital and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Herkimer. Survivors include her beloved family; three sons: Randy Gay of Gray, NY, Brian Gay and wife Sue of Herkimer, and William Gay, Jr., of Herkimer; two brothers: Dan Horning and wife Donna of Schenectady and Alfred Horning of Florida; a twin sister: Eva Tyrell and husband Bill of Gloversville; four grandchildren: Scott, Jason and wife Jodi, Codi and Austin; seven great grandchildren: Andy, Matthew, Stephanie, Skylar, Mackenzie, Nathan and Megan; as well as several extended family members including sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces and nephews including a special niece: Shirley Jackson, of the town of Little Falls. She was predeceased by several brothers and sisters and by her beloved son, Dennis Gay in March of 1985 and by her great grandaughter, Courtney Lynn Gay. The family will gather privately at the Enea Family Funeral Home in Herkimer to say goodbye. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service in the spring at a time to be announced at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer. Pastor Janet Gleason will officiate. Kindly consider memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association; envelopes may be obtained from the funeral parlor. The family is being cared for by funeral director Daniel J. Enea.
