MOHAWK-Mrs. Evelyn V. (Carrig) Charles, 78, of Walnut St., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning, May 4, 2008 at the residence. She was born on May 12, 1929 in Herkimer, daughter of the late John and Lena Carrig and educated in Herkimer schools. On August 6, 1949 she was united in marriage with James F. Charles in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. He passed away on January 8, 2000. She dedicated her life to taking wonderful care of her husband, children, grandchildren and her home. She was a communicant of St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. Survivors include her son: Larry Charles and wife Brenda of Herkimer; a daughter: Carol Barnes and husband Gary of South Carolina; her grandchildren: Kelli Charles, Bryan Charles and fianc? Gabrielle, Sara Barnes and Alexa Barnes; also surviving are many niece, nephews, cousins; in laws: Bill Lafayette, Mary Charles, Mildred Marusic and Maggie Charles all of Herkimer. She was preceded in death by three sisters: Agnes DeForrest, Marie Brysch and Margaret Barker. In respecting Evelyn's final wishes there are no public calling hours. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial Mass of Christian Burial which will commence at 10 am on Thursday, May 8, 2008 from St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. The Rev. Mark Cunningham, pastor will officiate. The family will greet friends in the vestibule of the church following the Mass. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer. Kindly consider memorial offerings to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to St. Francis de Sales Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral parlor.
