HERKIMER - Ervin "Cap" J. Fuller, 77, of Herkimer, NY, passed away at his home, on Thursday, October 10, 2024. Cap was born on July 10, 1947, in Herkimer, NY, to Ervin and Margaret Fuller. After the passing of both of his parents, he was lovingly adopted by his aunt, Lillian Farber.
Cap was a proud graduate of Herkimer High School, Albany Business College and Husson University, in Bangor, Maine. He had a distinguished career with Herkimer County, where he held several key roles, including Budget Officer and ultimately retiring as Commissioner of Social Services. His dedication to leadership, kindness and a deep commitment to helping others made this position a natural fit for him. Throughout his career, Cap made many lifelong friendships and left a lasting impact on those he worked with.
Cap is remembered as a kind and selfless man who always put others before himself. His family and friends meant the world to him. He cherished attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, recitals, concerts and school activities, relishing every moment he could spend with the kids. An avid New York sports fan, Cap rarely missed a Yankees, Giants, or Knicks game and he loved discussing the teams' performances with his children.
In recent years, Cap dedicated countless hours to the Calvary Cemetery, ensuring that the grave site of his beloved wife Carlotta, who predeceased him, was immaculate with fresh flowers and seasonal decorations. The profound love he had for Carlotta was evident in everything he did and her passing left a significant impact on his life.
Cap is survived by his children: Brian Fuller (Erin), of Slingerlands, NY, Arthur Gallagher (Amanda Case), of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Cindy Hopkinson, of Mohawk, NY; his cousin, Cathy Blackwell, of Herkimer, NY; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Brandon, and wife, Courtney, Brooke, and husband, Mark, Zoey, Amelia, Jacoby, Jamie, Caden, Emma, Nathan, Cole, Maverick, Charlotte and Navy; and a special cousin, Mary Catherine Ackley, of Rochester. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Gracie.
Cap was predeceased by his wife, Carlotta; his son, Bill Gallagher and his baby Elwood; his brothers, Jim and David Farber and John Oblak.
Cap's kindness, love for family and unwavering support for friends will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, at 10:15 a.m., from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, Herkimer, New York and at 11:00 a.m., from the Church of Sts. Anthony & Joseph, South Main Street, Herkimer, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated and then Cap will be escorted to Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, where interment will take place, where he will be laid to rest alongside his beloved family. A luncheon will follow.
An invitation to family and friends to attend calling hours which will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 4p.m. until 7 p.m., at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 North Washington Street, in Herkimer, New York. All are invited to the Funeral Service on Friday as well.
Remembrances in honor of Cap may be made to a local charity of your choice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
