Elva Chestney

d. December 29, 2004

Mrs. Elva (Mowers) Chestney, age 90, a longtime Salisbury resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, December 29, 2004. Her passing occurred in Valley Health Services, Herkimer where she had been residing. She was born on July 31, 1914 in Salisbury Center, a daughter of the late Leon and Delia (Dingman) Mowers and was educated in Salisbury schools. She had lived in the Gloversville, Edinburgh and Little Falls areas at one time. She was united in marriage with Otto Chestney in January of 1951. He passed away in 1970. Her last professional employment was with Kervita Pocketbook Factory in Gloversville. She was of the Universalist Faith. Elva was a gentle woman who lived a full life. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones. Survivors include many close nieces and nephews who were like her own children, many grand nieces and nephews and many cousins. She was predeceased by three brothers, Raymond, Harold and Frank Mowers, four sisters, Inez Johnston, Dorothy Knapp, Marie Lanphere and Evelyn Tyoe, and by a sister in law Louisa Mowers. There are no public calling hours. In keeping with Elva's wishes relatives and friends are invited to a graveside service that will be held next spring at a time to be announced in Salisbury Rural Cemetery. The family offers a special thanks to Country Manor Nursing Home for their compassion. They also would like to publicly acknowledge the staff at Valley Health Services, Herkimer who treated Elva and her family with dignity and respect. The wonderful care that was provided will never be forgotten. Funeral arrangements are in care of Daniel J. Enea of the Roberts-Buck Funeral Home, 3 E. Faville Ave., Dolgeville.
