ILION – Elizabeth J. Backus, age 86, of Ilion, New York, entered into eternal rest with the Lord, on July 13, 2024, at Adirondack Medical, Saranac Lake, New York.
Elizabeth was born February 1, 1938, in Herkimer, NY, the daughter of the late Arthur T. and Hazel (Niles) Robotham and was raised and educated in local schools. Her passion for dairy farming was practiced in Spinnerville, New York until the late 1980’s. Elizabeth then completed a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and worked approximately 17 years in this field. She resided in her parent’s house at 21 View Terrace, Ilion, New York. She first lived at this address at 8 years old as she found much comfort being there and called it home for most of her life.
Elizabeth leaves behind her daughter, Deborah Lynn Elison, of Cookson, OK, (grandchildren, Stevie, Lindsey, and Bo); her son, Edward James and his wife, Lorie, of Mohawk, (grandchildren Eddie, Brad, and Michael), and her son, Timothy Noel and his wife, Lynette Strack Backus, of Tupper Lake, New York, (grandchildren Cody, Jessie, Chuck and Julia); her two sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Patricia; her daughter-in-law, Noreen (grandsons, Matthew and Lynn Backus (the third).
She was predeceased by her father, Arthur Thomas Robotham; her mother, Hazel Robotham (Niles); her brothers, Bill and Jim Robotham; Lynn Edward Backus, Sr., the father of her five children; her son, Lynn Edward Backus, Jr. “Wheels,” and her son, Thomas H. Backus.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, and will consist of the following times: Calling hours will be held on that day, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, Frankfort/Ilion location. We will take Elizabeth to her final resting place, at Fly Creek Cemetery, at a later time and date convenient for the family. Family and friends are invited to attend the calling hours and Funeral Prayer Service, to conclude the afternoon, at 6:00 p.m.
