FRANKFORT - Edwin "Ed" M. Gilbert, age 80, of Lafayette, NJ, formerly of Frankfort, died Thursday, February 17, 2011, at St. Claire's Dover General Hospital, Dover, NJ.







He was born on September 18, 1930, in Herkimer, the son of Edwin C. and Kathleen (Murray) Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert graduated from Frankfort High School and Utica College. Ed was employed as an Accounting Technician for the US Army at Dover, NJ, for over thirty-five years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Dover, NJ, and a former member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Frankfort. Ed was one of the most sincere and honest people. He never had a bad thing to say about anyone.







Survivors include his cousins, Ted Murray and his wife, Joanne, of Ilion, Jack Murray and his wife, Fena, of Frankfort, Patrice Cantwell and her husband, Robert, of Rochester, and Murray Mc Cormick and his wife, Ruth, of California; several other cousins; and two special friends in Dover, NJ, Kenneth Wildrick and his buddy, Jack, who were there to provide Ed with compassion, friendship and support.







He was predeceased by his mother, Kathleen, on September 26, 1991, and his father, Edwin C., on January 17, 1992.







Funeral services will be held 9:45 a.m., Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion, and 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Leo Potvin. Spring burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frankfort. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 23, 2011, from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., prior to the funeral home service.







In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes are available at the Funeral Home.







All funeral and burial arrangements were prearranged and entrusted to Ed's family Funeral Director, Don Applegate.
