ILION – Edwin “Ed” D. Booth, age 87, of Park St., Ilion, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at home, with his wife Christine by his side.

He was born on September 18, 1937, in Ilion, the son of Frances Booth and graduated from Phoenix High School, in Phoenix, NY. Ed was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving actively from 1955-1975. He then became a Department of Defense Civilian and dedicated a total of 54 years of his life to the Military and Civilian Service. He began his Civilian Service at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome NY, in Airfield Management. Ed continued on to serve at the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security’s Aviation Branch’s aviation operations office, at Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield for many years, until his retirement.

On November 4, 1967, he was married to Christine Irwin, at Hemley-on-Thames, England.

Surviving family members include his wife, Christine; his 3 sons, John Booth, of Deerfield, Demmey Booth, of Ilion and Mark Booth and his wife, Diana, of Winchester, TN; his several step-children and step-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Maurice Irwin, of Stoke-on-Trent, England; and several nieces, nephews, cousins; his aunt-in-law, Betty Munday, of Loughton Milton Keynes, England. He was predeceased by his mother.

Visitation will be held, on Monday, October 21, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home’s larger location, at 4309 Acme Road, Ilion (old Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort). A Celebration of his Life Service will be held, after the visitation, at 3:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society, 514 State Rte 5S, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
