ST. JOHNSVILLE – Mrs. Edith L. Van Horne, age 89, who we affectionately remember as “Aunt Lu”, passed away peacefully, on Thursday morning, May 13, 2021, at St. Mary’s Healthcare, in Amsterdam, New York.
She was born on May 9, 1932, in Greenport, Long Island, a daughter to the late William and Edith (LeGrand) Montgomery and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1950. She was employed by New York Telephone Company for 24 years. She was married to Harry C. Van Horne, on February 20, 1971 and Harry died September 13, 1993, in Nelliston, New York. The Van Horne’s ran the Historian Bed & Breakfast until 2000. Edith moved to St. Johnsville in September 2012. She enjoyed the St. Johnsville Senior Saints Club as well as the Red Hat Ladies Society.
She was preceded in death by brothers, William, Arthur, Gerard, James and Barry; and sisters, Margaret & Rita.
She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins; one stepdaughter, Kathryn Fal; stepson, William Van Horne; and four step grandchildren, Chrystal, Jennifer, William, Jr. and Alexandra.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2021, at 12 NOON, at St. Johnsville Catholic Church, located at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, on 32 West Main Street and the Mass will be officiated by Father Rafal Dadello. If you plan to attend the Funeral services, due to COVID restrictions, a mask will be required. Thank you.
